In this part, I will be giving some simple guidelines on how to prevent dengue fever, especially this rainy season, which is known to be the season of dengue.
Dengue is communicable disease, and as a communicable disease, the best way of preventing its spread is cutting the mode of transfer. The mode of transfer in dengue is via the mosquito called Aedes aegypti. In order to prevent this mosquito from wreaking havoc, we must eliminate it or prevent it from getting to us. Here are some ways to eliminate it.
1. Clear all stagnant water daily. This is the main home of the said mosquito. These mosquitoes mainly survives in stagnant water. In order to prevent these mosquitoes to proliferate, we must take down their homes. What we need to do here is to simply replace water that has been collected in our buckets or if it is not needed anymore, we might as well drain it.
2. Use bug killers and screens. Though your home observes proper sanitation, but your neighbor's house is not, there is still a possibility that these mosquitoes may go inside your home. One good way to prevent them from entering your home is to put screens in your doors or windows. And if they happen to pass these screens, one way to eliminate them is having bug killers. It may cost a hundreds of pesos, but getting hospitalized surely costs a lot.
3. Use mosquito repellants. One good protection when you are going out to other places is using some mosquito repellants. I am talking about mainly of 'off lotion'. You never know which places are harboring these mosquitoes, so you might as well use this. Better be safe than sorry. Though it doesn't offer you 100% protection, it is better to have some than not.
4. Wear a set of pajamas. Since these mosquitoes mostly bites just before daytime and just before night time, why not wear a cool set of pajamas just before bedtime and you are set to a cool sleep without worries. As I said in the previous number, it doesn't protect you 100%, but it is better to have some than not.
Some traditional way to prevent mosquito bites are mosquito nets, and the neem or eucalyptus tree. These trees are said to be a good mosquito repellant.
I guess that's it for now on how to prevent dengue. I hope you learn something new today. Thanks for reading. =]
